Under the motto "from young scientists for young scientists" a workshop on 'Photon Detection for Medical Applications' will be held on December 2 and 3 at the University of Siegen, Germany. Doctoral students and Postdoctroal fellows from the MediNet Task 1 community will present their work in oral and poster presentation with ample time for discussion and knowledge exchange. Keynote talks from more experienced scientists complement the program.

One-day workshop: 'Microdosimetry in ion-beam therapy for beginners'. MedAustron, 9-10 October 2019.

The idea of this activity originated from the fortunate circumstance that four PhD programs are starting, almost at the same time, in different institutes in Belgium, United Kingdom, and Austria linked to the general topic of microdosimetry and proton/carbon-ion beam therapy. This meeting is organized in particular for those young researchers, but it is open to the research community. The two main goals are creating a ‘common language’ in microdosimetry in ion-beam therapy and initiating collaborations between the research groups in Europe in the field of microdosimetry applied to ion-beam therapy, avoiding overlapping and promoting complementarity between the programs.

The meeting took place in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, the town hosting MedAustron ion-beam therapy center.

The town of Wiener Neustadt is located at seventy kilometers from Vienna and it can be reached by train in approximately one hour and twenty minutes from the airport. The meeting will start at 9:00 am of Monday 7 October and will end at 15:00 pm of Wednesday 9 October, 2019.

Together with the presentation of the activities of MediNet groups, the meeting included a poster session. The presence of PhD students and young researchers was strongly encouraged.
